Canna indica
Canna
Lush tropical foliage is accented by bright red blooms atop of long stalks. Leaves are thick and grow upright. Grows well from zones 8+ and can be grown as a tender perennial in colder regions if root tubers are dug up after first frost. Medium drought tolerance. Plants look spectacular in clusters along flower borders as well as adding structure and tropical beauty to water features. We grow ours in containers for the deck. This variety blooms red single flowers.
This plant makes a most interesting deck plant and grows well as a container plant for several years if pruned and shaped, for the home or greenhouse, in addition to being a specimen plant.
Treat as a tropical but can tolerate moderate frost.
Fun Facts:
1. Native to Southern US and other Old World tropical regions
2. Hardy outdoors in zones 8+
